West Bengal Chief Minister Mamata Banerjee on Sunday expressed deep sorrow over the tragic helicopter crash near Kedarnath that claimed seven lives, including a child and the pilot. Calling it a “civil aviation tragedy,” she shared her condolences through an official post on X (formerly Twitter).
“The saddest part is that another civil aviation tragedy was reported this morning,” Banerjee wrote. She noted that the helicopter, operated by Aryan Aviation, was flying from Kedarnath Dham to Guptkashi when it crashed in the Gaurikund forest area.
While rescue operations were still ongoing at the time of her message, Banerjee said her prayers were with “each and every person on board.” She specifically acknowledged the presence of a child among the victims, highlighting the emotional weight of the loss.
This comes amid growing concerns over flight safety on the Char Dham pilgrimage route, with five helicopter-related incidents in less than 40 days.
